Spring Open House went really well this year!! Girish, Cynthia, Dr. Liu, and I spoke to about 20 total students this year in two sessions. I didn’t think there would be that many, so I didn’t have enough folders prepared, but I had extras set up, so it didn’t take me long to make the folders that I needed. Dr. Liu talked to the students about majoring in Computer Science, Lamar’s CS Dept., INSPIRED and Stairstep. Girish, Cynthia, and I talked to the students about our experiences with Computer Science and the INSPIRED program. I think it got a lot of the students interested in attending Lamar. We also demoed some robots and let the parents and students look at them. We also watched our summer camp video at the end.

I think Spring Open House is usually busier than Fall’s, so whoever coordinates future years should keep that in mind and plan accordingly. Also, we did not have a sheet to record contact information, but it should be included in future Open Houses.

All in all it was really fun. The students and parents got to hear about our experiences and how we enjoy what we do. I hope that the students think they will enjoy it too and join Lamar and the Computer Science Department.
