Weekend of Welcome
August 23rd – August 24th 2008

This year, Lamar held Weekend of Welcome instead of the usual Week of Welcome, and Dr. Liu and I attended. Iris also attended, but was mainly helping her sorority. We brought a poster and pamphlets about Inspired and Computer Science to inform prospective and enrolled students about us. We considered bringing the NXT, but we were threatened with rain, so decided against it.

During the day, a few of students seemed interested. One young woman, was enrolled in the Academy, and may consider attending a summer academy with us next year. Another student picked out a few pamphlets to give to her boyfriend, who was considering Computer Science as a major. There were not many students in our area, so it’s hard to say what the interest would have been with a larger amount of people passing by. It sprinkled briefly a few times, so a few papers got a little wet, but not enough to make us pack up and go home.
